01Who we are
Neko is an independent game for Android, published on Google Play under the developer name “Mr.Paroli”. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean the developer of Neko, who is the data controller for the little processing described here.
Some features rely on services run by Google (AdMob, Google Play Games and Google Play). Google acts as an independent controller for the data its services process, under the Google Privacy Policy.
02What stays on your phone
Everything you create in the game is saved in Neko's private storage on your device and is never sent to us:
- your kitty's name and colour (you choose them);
- its needs and mood: food, water, play, happiness, level and points;
- the Cat-Cards and Kawaii stickers you've collected, and the timer for the daily gift;
- the kitties you've had before, shown in Stats, and your best scores;
- your preferences, such as showing Neko in the notification bar.
Device backup
Neko allows Android to include this game data in your device backup. If you've turned on backup to your Google Account, Android may keep a copy there so your kitty can follow you to a new phone. That backup is managed by Google and by your device settings; we can't access it.
Deleting it
Cat Reset in Neko's settings gives you a new kitty, but keeps the previous ones in Stats. To erase everything, open Android Settings › Apps › Neko › Storage › Clear storage (there's a shortcut under App settings in Neko's settings), or simply uninstall the app.
03Ads by Google AdMob
Neko is free and shows a banner ad on the home screen. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To serve them, the Google Mobile Ads SDK built into the app automatically collects the following data and sends it to Google:
- IP address
- May be used to estimate your general location, such as your country or city.
- Device identifiers
- The Android advertising ID, the app set ID and, where applicable, other identifiers related to accounts signed in on the device.
- Interactions
- For example app launches, taps and ad views.
- Diagnostics
- Performance data about the app and the SDK, such as launch time and hang rate.
Google uses this data to show ads, measure them, produce analytics and prevent fraud. Depending on your settings and where you live, ads may be personalised based on your interests. The data is encrypted in transit.
We only receive aggregated reports from AdMob (for example, how many ads were shown) and never information that identifies you. To learn more, see how Google uses information from apps that use its services.
- Delete or reset your advertising ID in Android Settings › Privacy › Ads (the exact path may vary by device). Once it's deleted, apps can no longer use it to personalise ads.
- Manage how Google personalises ads in My Ad Center.
04Google Play Games
If you have a Google Play Games profile and you're signed in on your device, Neko sends your best score to the Neko leaderboard and unlocks achievements as your kitty grows. This goes through your Play Games profile and is handled by Google. Who can see your profile and your scores depends on your Play Games settings.
Neko itself doesn't read your Play Games profile, and your kitty's name is never sent. If you're not signed in to Play Games, nothing is sent at all. We can see the public leaderboard like any other player, plus aggregated statistics in the Google Play Console.
05Reviews & sharing
Leave a Review opens Google Play's own review window. Your rating and review are handled by Google and published on Google Play under your Google profile name, just like any other Play Store review.
Share with friends sends only a link to Neko on Google Play, through the app you choose. Neko doesn't see who you share it with.
06Permissions
Neko asks for very few permissions, and only for these reasons:
- InternetTo load ads and to talk to Google Play Games.
- NotificationsTo keep your kitty in the notification bar with Always with you. It's optional: Android asks you first, and you can switch it off at any time.
- Run at startupTo put your kitty back in the notification bar after the phone restarts or the app updates.
- VibrationFor small haptic feedback while you play.
Home screen widgets show your kitty's status and work entirely on your device.
What Neko never does
07Children
Neko is rated PEGI 3 and is suitable for everyone. The game never asks for personal information, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children; in fact, we receive none from any player.
Ads and Play Games are provided by Google. Parents can manage a child's Google Account, apps and ad settings with Google Family Link. If you think a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.
08Why we process data
If you're in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, data protection law asks us to state the legal basis for each use of personal data:
- Saving your game
- Needed to provide the game you've chosen to play (performance of a contract).
- Showing ads
- Your consent, where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland); otherwise, our legitimate interest in keeping Neko free.You can withdraw consent or object at any time; see “Your rights”.
- Play Games
- Needed to provide the leaderboard and achievements you use (performance of a contract).
- Your emails
- Our legitimate interest in answering you and handling your requests.
09How long data is kept
- Game data on your phone stays until you reset the game, clear its storage or uninstall it.
- Data collected by Google is kept according to Google's retention policies.
- Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, then deleted.
10Data outside your country
Google may process data on servers in the United States and other countries. For transfers from the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google relies on recognised safeguards such as the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
11Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and the UK), you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what happened before.
Since we don't receive your game data, you can act on most of it directly:
- game data: clear Neko's storage or uninstall the app (see section 02);
- advertising: delete your advertising ID or use My Ad Center (see section 03);
- data held by Google: manage it from your Google Account.
For anything we hold (in practice, emails you've sent us), just write to us. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; in the EU you can find yours on the European Data Protection Board's website.
If you live in a US state with a consumer privacy law, you may have similar rights, including the right to opt out of targeted advertising. The quickest way to do that is to delete your advertising ID. We don't sell personal information.
12This website
This site is hosted on Firebase Hosting by Google, which processes technical data such as your IP address to deliver the pages and keep them secure. The site uses no cookies, analytics or ads.
It remembers your light or dark theme choice in your browser's local storage, which never leaves your device. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts and the Google Play badge from Google's servers, so Google receives your IP address when you visit.
13Security
Your game data stays in Neko's private storage, which other apps can't read. Data sent by Google's services is encrypted in transit. No system is 100% secure, but keeping almost everything on your own device is about the best protection there is.
14Changes to this policy
If Neko changes in a way that affects your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. The latest version is always available at this address.
